Recently HUF released a capsule collection with filmmaker and photographer Ari Marcopoulos, whose dossier reads like a class syllabus on icons of contemporary art and hip-hop 101. The HUF collaboration is born out friendship between the prolific lens man and skateboarder and HUF founder, Keith Hufnagel, who go back more than twenty years. We caught up with Marcopoulos to get the back-story.

Marlborough Chelsea is pleased to present an exhibition of new photographs and video by New York artist Ari Marcopoulos. Entitled L1032015 (after the number and date assigned to a photograph within the artist’s archive) the show addresses interconnected ideas regarding the dynamic density of the city, the uncontrollable power of nature, and the resilience and frailty of the body.

There has a been a host of great new music and videos already this year, one of them being RATKING's "Snow Beach" off their debut studio album So It Goes. This is a fun little show from the curators of V1 Gallery, where they sent out a message to a bunch of artists they have shown over the years, including Barry McGee, Tim Barber, Ray Potes, Ed Templeton, Art Marcopoulos, and more, and asked them to submit one piece of art, in an edition of 1 + 1AP, that reflects the current state of the individual artists position right now. That show has become "Hindsight," and opens on January 17, 2014.

We aren't even sure what a Magna Carta Holy Grail is supposed to be, but it sounds like its competing with whatever a Yeezus is. If you have a Samsung Galaxy, maybe you are preparing for your July 4, 12:01am listening session with Jay Z's new LP of both religious and democratic implication (and for the record, we got thrones, yeezuses, Magna Cartas, and Indiana Jones over the past 18 months from Jay and West), but for the rest of us, we have to wait for the 9th of July. In the meantime, we can verify that indeed, street, skate and fashion photpgrapher Ari Marcopoulos has shot some of the imagery for Jay's album.

This past weekend we stopped by Known Gallery to check out Aaron Rose’s Fire Sale. When Rose moved to Los Angeles from NYC in 2001, the Beautiful Losers curator left a "big black box of 1990?s memories" in storage space in Glendale. Now he is having a gallery style fire sale. Photos and more after the jump…

Loving this photo of Ari Marcopoulos' that is one his show flyer for Here And Now at V1 Gallery in Copenhagen, Denmark. And just as Ari wanted, this new exhibition features works only from the, wait for it, here and now. As V1 writes of the famed photographer, "In Here and Now he (Ari) wanted to just show his work from 2012, and most of the prints, as can be seen from the date stamp in the lower-right hand corners, are from March this year."

Ari Marcopoulos will be showing in Paris at Galerie Frank Elbaz opening tomorrow night, January 8th, with a show titled This Week. The concept of the show seems simple enough: candid shots, snap shots, and more day-in-the-life type photography. And because it is Ari Marcopoulos, the photos tend to be interesting regardless of intent or style. Images after the jump . . .
