When he wasn't writing, he doodled. Taschen has released a fantastic six-volume set of R. Crumb's sketchbooks, based on the original hard-bound, slip-cased, seven-volume series released by the German publisher Zweitausendeins between 1981 and 1997. As Taschen notes, "Unlike the previous edition, which included every doodle ever made by the preeminent underground artist, our edition has been personally edited by the notoriously fastidious artist to include only what he considers his best work, reproduced directly from the original sketchbooks."

Here at the Juxtapoz offices we got this gem in the mail from German illustrator Jochen Schievink. And There Will Be Dogs is a 28 page saddle stitched 'zine created by Jochen Schievink and Corners publishing house out of South Korea. In addition to the 'zine it also comes with a large 24" x 36" offset poster featuring Schievink's Spitz Hedonism graphic.

One of our favorite purchases from the weekend at the LA Art Book Fair was a copy of Picture Box Inc's (in conjunction with ForYourArt) wonderful book, "In the Good Name of the Company: Artworks and ephemera produced by or in tandem with the Colby Printing Company." Long an iconic visual look of Southern California that has traveled the globe, we have long admired the history of the Colby brand, and have wanted to see a nice comprehensive history of its aesthetic. Tim Barber, the well-respected photographer and curator who has appeared in both our print edition and website over the years, will be releasing his newest book, "Relations," at Family Bookstore in Los Angeles tonight, Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at 7:30pm. The softcover book, printed in an edition of 500, is the companion catalogue from Barber's recent exhibition at Yuka Tsuruno Gallery in Tokyo.
