Jonathan LeVine Gallery is pleased to present Out of Knowhere, a series of new works by New York-born, California-based artist Doze Green, in what will be his fifth solo exhibition at the gallery. We have always been huge fans of the former Juxtapoz cover artist, and this looks like some of his strongest works to date.

Marc Giai-Miniet’s distinctively eerie aesthetic quite possibly comes from his exposure to images from the Holocaust. His work, exploring memory and its physicality, will be shown this month at the Jonathan LeVine Gallery in New York City, as part of a solo show, Théâtre de la Mémoire.

Jonathan LeVine Gallery is pleased to present Cruel Summer, a group exhibition curated by collector, graffiti historian, Juxtappoz contributor, and urban anthropologist Roger Gastman. "The summer of 1984 was awesome. The space shuttle Discovery took off on its maiden voyage, Apple released the Macintosh personal computer, the Olympics rallied the world together and Karate Kid was the hit film featuring the song Cruel Summer by Bananarama. The song and its video of three gorgeous young women roaming the streets of New York City inspired this show."

Launched on June 1, ColArt and Juxtapoz aim to seek out a new and emerging artist and provide him or her with a platform to create new work and excel their skill during a four-week residency in the center of London’s global contemporary art market. The winning artist will receive a prize package valued at more than $15,000, including flights, accommodations, a living stipend and access to necessary materials from the fine art brands, as well as a mentor that will oversee a number of tutorials with art professionals, visits to exhibitions, galleries and social events. At the end of the residency, the winning artist will show his or her work in an open studio exhibition in a section of ColArt’s Griffin Art Gallery.

It was very sad for us to see our 20th Anniversary show, "Art Truancy," come down from Jonathan LeVine Gallery a few weeks back. We had a blast! But good things come to an end, and in this case, another good thing is on the horizon at JLG. Famed and influential Bronx-graffiti staple CRASH is set to open "Broken English" at the gallery on June 26, 2014. In conjunction with the exhibition, CRASH has painted a mural with The L.I.S.A. Project NYC, located on Suffolk between Rivington and Stanton Streets, and will release a new screen print editio.

And finally, the art. We are so proud of all the artwork that is on exhibit in "Art Truancy: Celebrating 20 Years of Juxtapoz Magazine," open at Jonathan LeVine Gallery in NYC through June 14, 2014. It blows our mind that we are now two decades old, but what is even more amazing are all the artists that have been in our pages over those years. Their works tell the story, create the chance to document alternative art narratives, bring out the fans, bring out the collectors, and keep the creative energy of Juxtapoz alive. Here, then, is all the art in "Art Truancy."
Opening: "Art Truancy: Celebrating 20 Years of Juxtapoz Magazine" @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery—The PeopleJuxtapoz // Monday, May 19, 2014
As you may already know, or maybe you were there, but Juxtapoz celebrated a special 20th birthday exhibition, "Art Truancy: Celebrating 20 Years of Juxtapoz Magazine" at Jonathan LeVine Gallery this past week in NYC. We were excited to see old friends, new friends, artists, curators, editors, and anyone and everyone who has contributed or supported the magazine over the past two decades. We had two wild nights of openings and parties, and with the gracious support of the entire Jonathan LeVine Gallery staff, Converse, Liquitex, and all our friends, here is a look at the people who came out and celebrated.
