Who better to blast off the post-summer exhibition season than peripatetic NYC powerhouse Maya Hayuk? On September 5, 2019, the queen of very vibrant abstract assemblage is back to Alice Gallery with Pareidolia Deep Destroyer, a selection of work that introduces an expanded process in her creative practice.

In this showcase, Hayuk sets her signature X-based compositions for a tweak in technique. Zippy hyper colors still in tow, she slings broad-dripping brushstrokes in her organic shapes, transparent lines, expressive gestures, and surprising gradients. As she improvises, the viewer is welcome to do the same in this abstract adventure.

Further along, Hayuk continues a concept introduced in her mural painted at the Dunkirk Triennial during the summer. Two pieces, composed of straight lines, appear to create the epicenter of their surroundings. Employing unexpected hues when layering these grids of paint, Hayuk creates strict compositions that feel like they belong, each organic element melding together to capture the air, sun, and rain.
