Harman Projects is pleased to present Inner Romance, a solo exhibition by Montreal-based artist Marie-Claude Marquis. The exhibition will be Marquis' debut solo presentation in New York City and will mark the grand opening of Harman Projects.

Through her bold and honest statements appearing as hand painted text on the surfaces of nostalgic vintage plates, Marquis finds common ground with the viewer. Not only do these familiar objects feel as if they have been conjured directly from an old memory, but the artist's text reflects many of our inner most thoughts and feelings. Commenting on society, sexuality and a host of topical themes, her irreverent typographic interventions take on new meaning when paired with their more traditional canvases.

For Inner Romance, Marquis' work has shifted in focus from themes of interpersonal love to self-love. After several exhibitions exploring ideas relating to dating and breakups; Inner Romance is a reflection on the artist's newly developed relationship with herself. Within this new context, the work becomes positive affirmations and mantras. In Alone Not Lonely, the artist reminds us that your finest china should not be reserved for the enjoyment of others, but that it is equally suited for dinner for one.

In addition to her signature work on ceramic plates, the artist will be exhibiting embroideries on vintage-needle points and velveteen material. The centerpiece of the gallery will be a maximalist, dinner table installation created specifically for the exhibition.

Please join Harman Projects on Saturday, June 18th from 6pm to 8pm for the opening of Inner Romance. The artist will be in attendance. The exhibition will be on view Saturday, June 18th to Saturday, July 9th.
